  • 1.  When I grow up

Two questions every college student is asked what's your major and what do you want to do when you grow up.  For me I had a childhood dream to be an Olympic gymnast. That dream was soon crushed when it was clear I lacked the skills and natural talents to do much more then a back handspring. I moved on from that 4th grade dream and decided that I wanted to be a teacher. I was even selected to take part in a work study program in High School that allowed me to student teach at a local elementary school. I loved the experience and was excited to begin my studies in college. After my freshman year, I still loved the idea of teaching but I also began to realize that my part time jobs as a gymnastic coach, dance teacher and volunteering for other organizations led me to question if teaching was what I was meant to do. I spent the summer after my freshman year working a summer camp and decided that while teaching was still a passion, that I wanted to explore the non-profit world where I could still make an impact on today's youth and the world as a whole. This light bulb moment led me to change my majors my sophomore year and I have never looked back.

How have your career goals evolved over the years? What made you decide on your major/s and did you switch from what you originally thought you wanted to study?
