We all have an ideal or even a dream job that we aspire to have one day.

So what is your dream job? Is it something you are currently working towards? And how do you make your dream a reality?

I am interested in work in the political sphere, such as political communications and campaigning. I am looking to use my business/analytics skills to serve political organizations.

    Rajan,

Business and analytics skills will definitely be useful to political campaigns and organizations. My friends that work or have worked in politics all started locally and built up from there. I've read that nonprofits and grassroots organizations can also help get you into politics as well. I hope you find what you're looking for!

Rajan - Interesting area to get into.  Analytics has come to the forefront with politics these days and using that data to try to target the right audiences with the funds you have and give yourself the best chance of winning.  Do you pay attention to sites like Nate Silvers FiveThirtyEight?  He has been playing with political data for years.

I would love to work with video games, and the dream would be to work for Nintendo or the Pokemon Company International. Ever since I was a kid, gaming has been a huge part of my life, and it's definitely something I'm passionate about. Because of this, I think I would be successful in this area. I've studied Japanese for a few years, too, so it would be great to be able to use some of those skills.

    Kelly,

Did you know that one of our members is the creator of Pokemon Go? His name is John Hanke.

I hope you get your chance at your dream job! If you are looking to work internationally your background in Japanese will definitely be a benefit. The closest I ever got to working in video games was when I interviewed with League of Legends creator Riot Games. I didn't get the job but I learned a lot about the interview process!

    Matt,
Yes, I was quite excited when I saw his name in the pamphlet I received. Thank you so much! That's very cool, and I'm glad it was an educational experience for you.

I think work-life balance is an undervalued part of the "dream job".  In life, we spend a lot of time working, probably too much time so it's important to find a job where we are fulfilled, but at the same time, you don't want to forgo everything outside life as a sacrifice to have a fulfilling job.

I have been working almost 100% remote for over a year now and it has been really great. It is one of the things that actually allowed me to succeed while working and attaining my executive MBA.

So I guess my point is that I prefer to look at it as an overall dream lifestyle than the job alone.  It's all an integrated system!
