Hi all,
I wanted to ask this very important question because I know many BGS members have aspirations of leadership or are already leaders themselves. Personally, I've only been in a leadership role for about 7 months and I'm always learning more about what it means to lead. I certainly didn't start out seeking leadership.
Before I began working at BGS 4 years ago, I was on a completely different path. I was a teacher working with children from kindergarten up to 5th grade. At the time I never aspired to be a leader, but I quickly learned that so much of being a teacher was also being a good leader for your classroom. It was a lot of trial and error and I certainly failed along the way but my time as a teacher taught me what leadership meant to me and the type of leader I would ultimately want to become. When I left education and began working at Beta Gamma Sigma, I was very fortunate to work under some amazing leaders who guided me and helped foster my talents. This is when I truly felt like I had an idea of what leadership was, it's empowering your team and those around you to do great things. I know the idea of empowering leadership isn't a new one, however, it is one that resonates with me and that's because I've been lucky enough to experience it firsthand.
So here comes the big question, what does leadership mean to you? Feel free to share your personal journey and your own experiences! I would love to hear about them.
