Hi everyone!  I'm curious to know if you had trouble deciding on your college major.  I know some that have known what they wanted to do since they were young, some that have no clue, and others, including myself, that thought they knew but changed once getting into it. I wanted to be an engineer and got my degree in Electrical Engineering at Southern Illinois University at Carbondale.  While going to school, I worked as an intern at a local electrical co-op where I mapped the power grid on their mapping software.  When I graduated, the software company was hiring and offered me a position in St. Louis.  I loved working with the software so much that I took the position and my IT career began!

    Tell us your story!

Hi Wendy! I study at Minnesota State University Moorhead, and when I first came to college I was not sure at all of what I wanted to do! I started off as a business major because since I am an international student I could not come undeclared and that really helped out. I took a few business classes and one of the requirements was principles of accounting. I fell in love with the class and became a tutor for it. I enjoyed tutoring principles of accounting so much that I decided to switch my major to accounting. It was not a huge change from Business so I will still graduate in 4 years in May 2020, but I am really glad I changed because I love my accounting courses and can not wait to pursue a career in the field!

Hi Leticia. It really is difficult to know what you want to do from a career standpoint when you are first starting out.  It sounds like you have found what you love in accounting which is great!  Accounting is a great field where there are so many options!  May 2020 is not too far away.  Best of luck in your remaining year and thank you for being a BGS member!
