    Hello Everyone,

Love to hear your ideas on conducting the new member ceremony virtually with COVID-19 keeping us apart. I use Zoom in my individual appointments and meetings. Are there other options? Thoughts and suggestions on how this would look would be greatly appreciated!

    Hi Charles,

As I am not part of a collegiate chapter but of the German Alumni chapter which implemented weekly virtual networking events on Zoom in the beginning of the crisis, I would like to share some advantages of Zoom:

    • Customized Background: Every User is able to create an individual background independent of his/her surrounding which poses an opportunity to do a strong collegiate branding.
    • Video quality: Very high, better than I have seen with Skype business or Cisco Webex as I use them professionally.
    • Waiting Room: When creating an event, choose "create waiting room". Thereby, users line up in a waiting room before the meeting starts. Would give you the opportunity to individually permit users to the meeting.
    Hope this is helpful.

    Charlie,

In addition to Zoom, we've heard of some chapters using google hangouts, YouTube live or created pre-recorded videos and shared them with students. There are some discussions within the chapter advisor community within ConnectBGS including examples from other advisors. If you don't have access to this community, please let us know and a member of our team will be happy to assist you. Should you have any other questions, please feel free to reach out to your chapter manager or our chapter operations team via chapters@betagammasigma.org.

    Best,

    Katie Avendano
