Hi Shivawni,
I know some people that took some prep courses and they felt they were beneficial. If you have the self-discipline, I'd recommend just investing in a prep book - you should be able to even pick it up at the library (just make sure it is current). I set my date ahead of time because it forced me to prepare for a specific time period and allowed me to properly plan. All I did was set aside a specific numbers of hours daily to sit and work through the book and identified where I was strong and where I was weak. Once I found areas I had to brush up on, I used the final week before the exam to focus on those areas. If you did the pre-work and focus on your weaknesses the week before, you'll do great. I can't recall exactly where I scored, but I believe it was in the 680 range, but I knew where I needed to be to get into my program, so I didn't stress about it as much. On that note - also do your research on your school and see where your score needs to be, that will help you determine how much work you'll need to do.
Out of all of this - the best advice is to set your date first - it will force you to do the work you need to do in order to be ready.
Best of luck!
