You’ve probably heard us talk about ConnectBGS (CBGS)—and for good reason! It’s one of the newest perks of your lifetime membership to Beta Gamma Sigma, and it can help you make valuable connections (hence the name) with other high level business students and established leaders around the world. You can share stories and experiences, ask and offer advice, find a mentor or mentee, and even find your next job.
Here’s everything you need to get started using ConnectBGS.
Q. What is ConnectBGS?
A. ConnectBGS is Beta Gamma Sigma’s forum-style web platform. It’s structured kind of like reddit—there are communities for very specific groups or interest areas, but most discussions happen in the “general” community. Within each community is a discussion board; you can reply to other discussions and join their conversation, or you can post a discussion “message” if you have something specific to share/ask.
Q. Who is ConnectBGS for?
A. It’s exclusively for BGS’ lifetime members. You’ll find people from every stage of their career posting and commenting on CBGS—from interns to seasoned professionals.
Q. Do I have to pay anything to use it?
A. No! It’s completely free to use and it’s built into your BGS account in our system. That means when you log on to betagammasigma.org, you’re also automatically logged on to ConnectBGS. Once you’re logged in, click on ConnectBGS or go to connect.betagammasigma.org and start posting!
Q. How do I post on ConnectBGS?
A. There are a few different places where you will see a button to post a message. Here are a two methods.
- To post from any page on ConnectBGS: in the blue bar at the top of the page, select “participate” and select “post a message” from the drop-down menu. Choose the discussion community you want your post to appear in, add a subject and your details, and hit “send.”
- After you’ve joined a community, you’ll see a green “add” button at the top of the latest discussion posts section. Then follow the same process as above—add a subject and your post details and send away!
Q. What should I post about?
A. The BGS community is great if you want career advice, if you’re relocating for work, looking for resume tips, or trying to improve your skills. (On the flipside of that: you can respond to others’ discussions and provide valuable input.)
BGS members come from many different disciplines within the "business" realm--accountancy, FinTech, marketing, Human Resources, supply chain management, and many more! Just about any topic can fit under the "business" umbrella in one way or another, so don't be afraid to ask a question or write a discussion post about whatever interests you.Post on CBGS to share insightful articles you think the rest of the BGS community would be interested in—even if you wrote it yourself! It’s also a great way to keep up with the other members of your local alumni chapter—head over to “alumni communities” and join the one in your area!
Parting Thoughts
ConnectBGS is an amazing tool to have at your disposal! But there’s one small caveat: you have to actually use it. If you actively engage with others and contribute, you’ll build relationships and business connections with other amazing and brilliant people like yourself, and you can learn from each other and show the world that you’re the best in business.
