  • 1.  May 2026 Alumni Leader Call Recap

    Posted 5 hours ago

    Hello Alumni Leaders,

Thank you to all of the Alumni Leaders who were able to join the Alumni Leader Calls last Thursday. It was great to see those who were able to join. The recap was sent out on Monday but a few upcoming pieces to make note of:

    • The Alumni Chapter Annual Report will be distributed to Alumni Chapter Presidents on Monday, June 1, 2026, and completed reports are due by Friday, August 7, 2026. Required materials include updated officer information, event lists, governing documents, meeting minutes (if applicable), and financial reports for the 2025–2026 fiscal year.
      • Submission of the Annual Report is required for Alumni Chapters to remain in good standing and maintain eligibility for the Alumni Chapter Grant Program, Alumni Chapter Awards, and Alumni Chapter Scholarship Program.
      • All Alumni Chapters must submit an updated copy of their chapter Constitution and Bylaws as part of the Annual Report process to support BGS's ongoing IRS 501(c)(3) compliance requirements.
    • Alumni Chapters that are eligible for the Alumni Chapter Grant Program and Alumni Chapter Awards will receive notification and application materials on Monday, September 1, 2026. Eligibility requirements include timely submission of the 2025/2026 Annual Report, maintaining active leadership, hosting qualifying events, and not charging member dues.
    • The Alumni Leaders Calls for 2026/2027 will be held Thursday, September 10, 2026; Thursday, January 14, 2027; and Thursday, May 13, 2027. Registration details for the September call will be shared later this year.

A summary of the discussion is below:

    • Relationship-driven outreach continues to be one of the strongest engagement strategies, including personally inviting members who have attended past events and broadening outreach efforts to reach new audiences. Building strong engagement takes time and a lot of effort. Don't get discouraged with low attended events. Consistency and effort goes along way and is important.
    • Intentional, experience-focused events tend to generate the highest participation and strongest member engagement. The Detroit Area Alumni Chapter shared that events at the Detroit Institute of Arts tour was well received and attended and their Spring Mixer regularly attracts 50–60 attendees and includes invites to new inductees.
    • Building and maintaining connections with collegiate chapters remains important. Alumni leader involvement in ceremonies and collegiate chapter activities is valued by advisors and helps strengthen the student experience. This will take tame to build the relationships with the Collegiate Chapter Advisors/Admins so don't be discouraged with a lack of response and plan for consistent outreach.
    • Alumni leaders emphasized the importance of understanding that each collegiate chapter has unique demographics and engagement needs, requiring tailored approaches to outreach and programming.
    • Creating structured leadership opportunities within Alumni Chapters has helped improve engagement and accountability. Examples included assigning board members ownership over specific initiatives and developing student committees within Alumni Chapters to support programming and member engagement efforts.
